A Unix timestamp counts the seconds since 1 January 1970 00:00:00 UTC, ignoring leap seconds. Enter a number to get the date, or a date like 2026-10-22T09:30:00Z to get the number.
How it works
Ten-digit numbers are treated as seconds and thirteen-digit numbers as milliseconds, the two forms used by Unix tools and by JavaScript (Date.now()) respectively.
A date written without a time zone is ambiguous. ISO dates ending in Z are UTC; a date-only string such as 2026-10-22 is also read as UTC midnight by JavaScript.
Systems that store timestamps as signed 32-bit seconds overflow on 19 January 2038; 64-bit timestamps do not have that problem.
