URL encoding replaces characters that are not allowed or have a special meaning in URLs with % followed by their UTF-8 bytes in hex: a space becomes %20 and é becomes %C3%A9.
How it works
Encoding uses encodeURIComponent, which is right for one query value or path segment. It encodes /, ?, & and =, so do not run it over a whole URL.
When decoding, + is read as a space, as HTML forms send it. In a path, a literal + is just a plus sign.
