A version 4 UUID is 128 bits, 122 of them random, written as 32 hex digits in the pattern 8-4-4-4-12. The chance of two random v4 UUIDs colliding is negligible for any practical number.
How it works
UUIDs come from crypto.randomUUID(), which uses a cryptographically secure random source. Nothing is stored or sent.
Random v4 UUIDs scatter inserts across a database index. For primary keys, version 7 UUIDs, which start with a timestamp, keep inserts in order.
