Key figures
| Value | Year | |
|---|---|---|
| Latest | 19 | 2024 |
| Ten years earlier | 8 | 2014 |
| Highest | 90 | 1996 |
| Lowest | 2 | 1984 |
| Average since 2016 | 10.33 | 2016–2024 |
| First recorded | 3 | 1982 |
Since 1982 it is up 533.33% from 3 in 1982 (4.49% a year on average, compounded). The World Bank has no value for 7 of the years in between; the chart leaves those gaps open rather than joining across them.
What the numbers say
In 2024, Cuba's industrial design applications, resident, by count rose 280% on 2023 (from 5 to 19).
Across the 28 yearly changes before that (1983 to 2023), the average change was +57.6% and a typical year strayed about 200.3% from that (the standard deviation). This year's change was 1.1 standard deviations above that average, so it was larger than a typical year, though not out of the range seen before.
On record, the biggest yearly rise was 880% in 1988 and the biggest yearly fall was 71.1% in 1997. The numbers show how large and when, not why; for the cause, look at what happened in that country in those years.

What this measures
Industrial design applications are applications to register an industrial design with a national or regional Intellectual Property (IP) offices and designations received by relevant offices through the Hague System. A resident application refers to an application filed with the IP office of, or acting for, the state or jurisdiction in which the first named applicant in the application is resident. Design count is used to render application data for industrial applications across offices comparable, as some offices follow a single-class/single-design filing system while others have a multiple class/design filing system.
Limitations: Data are based on information supplied to World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) by IP offices in annual surveys, supplemented by data in national IP office reports. Data may be missing for some offices or periods.
Regional and income-group figures are computed by the World Bank as a sum.
