What the numbers say
In 2024, Liechtenstein's industrial design applications, resident, by count rose 3.3% on 2023 (from 30 to 31).
Across the 17 yearly changes before that (1983 to 2023), the average change was +79.1% and a typical year strayed about 210.2% from that (the standard deviation). This year's change was 0.4 standard deviations below that average, so it was an ordinary year: it sits within the range of normal year-to-year movement.
On record, the biggest yearly rise was 700% in 1991 and the biggest yearly fall was 69.7% in 2017. The numbers show how large and when, not why; for the cause, look at what happened in that country in those years.
From 2015 to 2024 there is no clear straight-line trend: a straight line explains 19% of the movement over 10 observed years, so the value is moving around more than it is heading anywhere.

What this measures
Industrial design applications are applications to register an industrial design with a national or regional Intellectual Property (IP) offices and designations received by relevant offices through the Hague System. A resident application refers to an application filed with the IP office of, or acting for, the state or jurisdiction in which the first named applicant in the application is resident. Design count is used to render application data for industrial applications across offices comparable, as some offices follow a single-class/single-design filing system while others have a multiple class/design filing system.
Limitations: Data are based on information supplied to World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) by IP offices in annual surveys, supplemented by data in national IP office reports. Data may be missing for some offices or periods.
Regional and income-group figures are computed by the World Bank as a sum.
