1 byte (B) = 0.001 kilobytes (kB). To convert, divide by 1,000: kB = B ÷ 1,000. For example, 500 B = 0.5 kB.
kB = B ÷ 1,000

The two units
Byte (B). Eight bits. File sizes and memory are counted in bytes.
Kilobyte (kB). 1,000 bytes in the SI sense. Some software uses "KB" for 1,024 bytes, which is properly a kibibyte (KiB).
Because both units are defined in terms of the same base unit, the factor 0.001 is exact, not a rounded measurement.
