What the numbers say
In 2022, Sudan's labor force, total rose 1% on 2021 (from 10.84 million to 10.95 million).
Across the 30 yearly changes before that (1992 to 2021), the average change was +2% and a typical year strayed about 0.9% from that (the standard deviation). This year's change was 1.1 standard deviations below that average, so it was larger than a typical year, though not out of the range seen before.
On record, the biggest yearly rise was 3.7% in 2009 and the biggest yearly fall was 0% in 2020. The numbers show how large and when, not why; for the cause, look at what happened in that country in those years.
From 2013 to 2022 the straight-line trend is upward, about 129,069 a year. A straight line explains 98% of the movement over 10 observed years.

A straight-line projection, tested first
Extending that straight line gives about 11.34 million for 2025. We show this only because the same method, fitted on earlier years, predicted 2020 to 2022 better than "no change" would have: its average miss was 91,320, against 116,020 for assuming no change. Treat it as a continuation of the recent pattern, not a forecast of events: it cannot see a recession, a policy change or a revision to the data.

What this measures
Labor force comprises people ages 15 and older who supply labor for the production of goods and services during a specified period. It includes people who are currently employed and people who are unemployed but seeking work as well as first-time job-seekers. Not everyone who works is included, however. Unpaid workers, family workers, and students are often omitted, and some countries do not count members of the armed forces. Labor force size tends to vary during the year as seasonal workers enter and leave.
Regional and income-group figures are computed by the World Bank as a sum.
