Serbia's food production index (2014-2016 = 100) was 96.4 in 2024, the latest year in the World Bank's World Development Indicators. That is down 1.65% from 98.02 in 2014 (0.17% a year on average, compounded).

What the numbers say
In 2024, Serbia's food production index (2014-2016 = 100) fell 7.78 on 2023 (from 104.18 to 96.4).
Across the 17 yearly changes before that (2007 to 2023), the average change was +0.36 and a typical year strayed about 10.18 from that (the standard deviation). This year's change was 0.8 standard deviations below that average, so it was an ordinary year: it sits within the range of normal year-to-year movement.
On record, the biggest yearly rise was 16.92 in 2018 and the biggest yearly fall was 18.42 in 2012. The numbers show how large and when, not why; for the cause, look at what happened in that country in those years.
From 2015 to 2024 there is no clear straight-line trend: a straight line explains less than 1% of the movement over 10 observed years, so the value is moving around more than it is heading anywhere.

What this measures
Food production index covers food crops that are considered edible and that contain nutrients. Coffee and tea are excluded because, although edible, they have no nutritive value.
Limitations: Agricultural data are collected by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) from official national sources through the questionnaire and are supplemented with information from official secondary data sources. The secondary sources cover official country data from websites of national ministries, national publications and related country data reported by various international organizations. The FAO tries to impose standard definitions and reporting methods, but complete consistency across countries and over time is not possible. Data on agricultural employment, in particular, should be used with caution.
Regional and income-group figures are computed by the World Bank as a weighted average.
