Saudi Arabia's fixed broadband subscriptions was 14.97 million in 2024, the latest year in the World Bank's World Development Indicators. That is up 120.05% from 6.8 million in 2019 (17.09% a year on average, compounded).
Key figures
| Value | Year | |
|---|---|---|
| Latest | 14.97 million | 2024 |
| Five years earlier | 6.8 million | 2019 |
| Highest | 14.97 million | 2024 |
| Lowest | 14,000 | 2001 |
| Average since 2015 | 9.44 million | 2015–2024 |
| First recorded | 14,000 | 2001 |
Over five years it is up 120.05% from 6.8 million in 2019 (17.09% a year on average, compounded). Since 2001 it is up 106,811% from 14,000 in 2001 (35.42% a year on average, compounded). The World Bank has no value for 2 of the years in between; the chart leaves those gaps open rather than joining across them.
What the numbers say
In 2024, Saudi Arabia's fixed broadband subscriptions rose 3.3% on 2023 (from 14.49 million to 14.97 million).
Across the 19 yearly changes before that (2002 to 2023), the average change was +47.2% and a typical year strayed about 65.2% from that (the standard deviation). This year's change was 0.7 standard deviations below that average, so it was an ordinary year: it sits within the range of normal year-to-year movement.
On record, the biggest yearly rise was 221.8% in 2006 and the biggest yearly fall was 1.3% in 2005. The numbers show how large and when, not why; for the cause, look at what happened in that country in those years.
From 2015 to 2024 the straight-line trend is upward, about 1.1 million a year. A straight line explains 85% of the movement over 10 observed years.

What this measures
Fixed broadband subscriptions refers to fixed subscriptions to high-speed access to the public Internet (a TCP/IP connection), at downstream speeds equal to, or greater than, 256 kbit/s. This includes cable modem, DSL, fiber-to-the-home/building, other fixed (wired)-broadband subscriptions, satellite broadband and terrestrial fixed wireless broadband. This total is measured irrespective of the method of payment. It excludes subscriptions that have access to data communications (including the Internet) via mobile-cellular networks. It should include fixed WiMAX and any other fixed wireless technologies. It includes both residential subscriptions and subscriptions for organizations.
Regional and income-group figures are computed by the World Bank as a sum.
