Yearly data from 1960 to 2025, from the World Bank.
Bangladesh's services, value added (constant LCU) was 17.37 trillion in 2025, the latest year in the World Bank's World Development Indicators. That is up 73.66% from 10 trillion in 2015 (5.67% a year on average, compounded).
| Value | Year | |
|---|---|---|
| Latest | 17.37 trillion | 2025 |
| Five years earlier | 13.38 trillion | 2020 |
| Ten years earlier | 10 trillion | 2015 |
| Highest | 17.37 trillion | 2025 |
| Lowest | 1.26 trillion | 1960 |
| Average since 2016 | 13.93 trillion | 2016–2025 |
| First recorded | 1.26 trillion | 1960 |
Over five years it is up 29.82% from 13.38 trillion in 2020 (5.36% a year on average, compounded). Since 1960 it is up 1,284% from 1.26 trillion in 1960 (4.13% a year on average, compounded).
In 2025, Bangladesh's services, value added (constant LCU) rose 4.3% on 2024 (from 16.65 trillion to 17.37 trillion).
Across the 30 yearly changes before that (1995 to 2024), the average change was +5.5% and a typical year strayed about 0.8% from that (the standard deviation). This year's change was 1.4 standard deviations below that average, so it was larger than a typical year, though not out of the range seen before.
On record, the biggest yearly rise was 9% in 1980 and the biggest yearly fall was 6.8% in 1971. The numbers show how large and when, not why; for the cause, look at what happened in that country in those years.
From 2016 to 2025 the straight-line trend is upward, about 753.48 billion a year. A straight line explains 100% of the movement over 10 observed years.
Worked out from the yearly values above. How the checks work: standard deviation, z-scores and straight-line trends.
Extending that straight line gives about 19.44 trillion for 2028. We show this only because the same method, fitted on earlier years, predicted 2023 to 2025 better than "no change" would have: its average miss was 524.59 billion, against 1.59 trillion for assuming no change. Treat it as a continuation of the recent pattern, not a forecast of events: it cannot see a recession, a policy change or a revision to the data.

In 2025, Bangladesh had the 24th highest value of the 161 economies reporting that year. Higher is not always better: for some indicators the lowest value is the one to aim for. See the full ranking.
Services industries correspond to ISIC (Rev. 4) divisions 45-99 and includes wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles, hotels and restaurants, transport, storage and communication, financial intermediation, real estate, renting and business activities, public administration and defence, compulsory social security, education, health and social work, other community, social and personal service activities, private households with employed persons, and extra-territorial organizations and bodies. Value added is the contribution to the economy by a producer or an industry or an institutional sector, which is estimated by the total value of output produced and deducting the total value of intermediate consumption of goods and services used to produce that output. This indicator is expressed in constant prices, meaning the series has been adjusted to account for price changes over time. The reference year for this adjustment varies by country. This series is expressed in local currency units.
