Thailand's primary completion rate, total (% of relevant age group) was 107.07% in 2025, the latest year in the World Bank's World Development Indicators. That is up 6.47 percentage points from 100.6% in 2020.
Key figures
| Value | Year | |
|---|---|---|
| Latest | 107.07% | 2025 |
| Five years earlier | 100.6% | 2020 |
| Highest | 107.07% | 2025 |
| Lowest | 37.03% | 1975 |
| Average since 2017 | 101.24% | 2017–2025 |
| First recorded | 37.03% | 1975 |
Over five years it is up 6.47 percentage points from 100.6% in 2020. Since 1975 it is up 70.04 percentage points from 37.03% in 1975. The World Bank has no value for 34 of the years in between; the chart leaves those gaps open rather than joining across them.
What the numbers say
In 2025, Thailand's primary completion rate, total (% of relevant age group) rose 4.52 percentage points on 2024 (from 102.55% to 107.07%).
Across the 12 yearly changes before that (1976 to 2024), the average change was +0.66 percentage points and a typical year strayed about 1.9 percentage points from that (the standard deviation). This year's change was 2.0 standard deviations above that average, so it was unusually large compared with the rest of the record.
On record, the biggest yearly rise was 4.52 percentage points in 2025 and the biggest yearly fall was 2.95 percentage points in 2000. The numbers show how large and when, not why; for the cause, look at what happened in that country in those years.
From 2017 to 2025 the straight-line trend is upward, about 1.14 percentage points a year. A straight line explains 84% of the movement over 9 observed years.

What this measures
Primary completion rate, or gross intake ratio to the last grade of primary education, is the number of new entrants (enrollments minus repeaters) in the last grade of primary education, regardless of age, divided by the population at the entrance age for the last grade of primary education. Data limitations preclude adjusting for students who drop out during the final year of primary education.
Limitations: The data do not account for students who drop out during the final year of primary education. Therefore, this rate serves as a proxy and should be considered an upper estimate of the actual primary completion rate. There are many reasons why the primary completion rate can exceed 100 percent. The numerator may include late entrants and overage children who have repeated one or more grades of primary education as well as children who entered school early, while the denominator is the number of children at the entrance age for the last grade of primary education.
Regional and income-group figures are computed by the World Bank as a weighted average.
