Sudan's industrial design applications, resident, by count was 243 in 2020, the latest year in the World Bank's World Development Indicators. That is up 5.65% from 230 in 2015 (1.11% a year on average, compounded).
Key figures
| Value | Year | |
|---|---|---|
| Latest | 243 | 2020 |
| Five years earlier | 230 | 2015 |
| Highest | 545 | 2014 |
| Lowest | 1 | 1999 |
| Average since 2012 | 265.44 | 2012–2020 |
| First recorded | 12 | 1998 |
Over five years it is up 5.65% from 230 in 2015 (1.11% a year on average, compounded). Since 1998 it is up 1,925% from 12 in 1998 (14.65% a year on average, compounded). The World Bank has no value for 2 of the years in between; the chart leaves those gaps open rather than joining across them.
What the numbers say
In 2020, Sudan's industrial design applications, resident, by count rose 11.5% on 2019 (from 218 to 243).
Across the 18 yearly changes before that (1999 to 2019), the average change was +92.1% and a typical year strayed about 208.3% from that (the standard deviation). This year's change was 0.4 standard deviations below that average, so it was an ordinary year: it sits within the range of normal year-to-year movement.
On record, the biggest yearly rise was 800% in 2000 and the biggest yearly fall was 91.7% in 1999. The numbers show how large and when, not why; for the cause, look at what happened in that country in those years.
From 2012 to 2020 there is no clear straight-line trend: a straight line explains 1% of the movement over 9 observed years, so the value is moving around more than it is heading anywhere.

What this measures
Industrial design applications are applications to register an industrial design with a national or regional Intellectual Property (IP) offices and designations received by relevant offices through the Hague System. A resident application refers to an application filed with the IP office of, or acting for, the state or jurisdiction in which the first named applicant in the application is resident. Design count is used to render application data for industrial applications across offices comparable, as some offices follow a single-class/single-design filing system while others have a multiple class/design filing system.
Limitations: Data are based on information supplied to World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) by IP offices in annual surveys, supplemented by data in national IP office reports. Data may be missing for some offices or periods.
Regional and income-group figures are computed by the World Bank as a sum.
