Key figures
| Value | Year | |
|---|---|---|
| Latest | 98% | 2016 |
| Five years earlier | 95.25% | 2011 |
| Highest | 98.38% | 2015 |
| Lowest | 66.65% | 1986 |
| Average since 2007 | 94.55% | 2007–2016 |
| First recorded | 66.65% | 1986 |
Over five years it is up 2.76 percentage points from 95.25% in 2011. Since 1986 it is up 31.35 percentage points from 66.65% in 1986. The World Bank has no value for 12 of the years in between; the chart leaves those gaps open rather than joining across them.
What the numbers say
In 2016, St. Kitts and Nevis' school enrollment, secondary (% net) fell 0.37 percentage points on 2015 (from 98.38% to 98%).
Across the 12 yearly changes before that (1989 to 2015), the average change was +0.5 percentage points and a typical year strayed about 7.79 percentage points from that (the standard deviation). This year's change was 0.1 standard deviations below that average, so it was an ordinary year: it sits within the range of normal year-to-year movement.
On record, the biggest yearly rise was 18.61 percentage points in 2013 and the biggest yearly fall was 16.07 percentage points in 2012. The numbers show how large and when, not why; for the cause, look at what happened in that country in those years.
From 2007 to 2016 there is no clear straight-line trend: a straight line explains 5% of the movement over 10 observed years, so the value is moving around more than it is heading anywhere.

What this measures
Net enrollment rate is the ratio of children of official school age who are enrolled in school to the population of the corresponding official school age. Secondary education completes the provision of basic education that began at the primary level, and aims at laying the foundations for lifelong learning and human development, by offering more subject- or skill-oriented instruction using more specialized teachers.
Limitations: Enrollment indicators are based on annual school surveys, but do not necessarily reflect actual attendance or dropout rates during the year. Also, the length of education differs across countries and can influence enrollment rates, although the International Standard Classification of Education (ISCED) tries to minimize the difference. For example, a shorter duration for primary education tends to increase the rate; a longer one to decrease it (in part because older children are more at risk of dropping out). Moreover, age at enrollment may be inaccurately estimated or misstated, especially in communities where registration of births is not strictly enforced.
Regional and income-group figures are computed by the World Bank as a weighted average.
