Key figures
| Value | Year | |
|---|---|---|
| Latest | US$532.01 million | 2025 |
| Five years earlier | US$210.13 million | 2020 |
| Highest | US$716.4 million | 2012 |
| Lowest | US$8.56 million | 1995 |
| Average since 2018 | US$450.29 million | 2018–2025 |
| First recorded | US$61.7 million | 1993 |
Over five years it is up 153.18% from US$210.13 million in 2020 (20.42% a year on average, compounded). Since 1993 it is up 762.25% from US$61.7 million in 1993 (6.96% a year on average, compounded).
What the numbers say
In 2025, Panama's stocks traded, total value (current US$) rose 25.7% on 2024 (from US$423.19 million to US$532.01 million).
Across the 27 yearly changes before that (1994 to 2024), the average change was +51.4% and a typical year strayed about 115.8% from that (the standard deviation). This year's change was 0.2 standard deviations below that average, so it was an ordinary year: it sits within the range of normal year-to-year movement.
On record, the biggest yearly rise was 376.5% in 2011 and the biggest yearly fall was 88.9% in 2009. The numbers show how large and when, not why; for the cause, look at what happened in that country in those years.
From 2018 to 2025 there is no clear straight-line trend: a straight line explains 18% of the movement over 8 observed years, so the value is moving around more than it is heading anywhere.

What this measures
The value of shares traded is the total number of shares traded, both domestic and foreign, multiplied by their respective matching prices. Figures are single counted (only one side of the transaction is considered). Companies admitted to listing and admitted to trading are included in the data. Data are end of year values converted to U.S. dollars using corresponding year-end foreign exchange rates.
Limitations: Data cover measures of size (market capitalization, number of listed domestic companies) and liquidity (value of shares traded as a percentage of gross domestic product, value of shares traded as a percentage of market capitalization). The comparability of such data across countries may be limited by conceptual and statistical weaknesses, such as inaccurate reporting and differences in accounting standards. Only EOB trades are included in the total value of shares traded.
Regional and income-group figures are computed by the World Bank as a sum.
