Key figures
| Value | Year | |
|---|---|---|
| Latest | 15,573 | 2019 |
| Five years earlier | 9,884 | 2014 |
| Highest | 15,573 | 2019 |

| Average since 2010 | 11,755 | 2010–2019 |
| First recorded | 4,170 | 1995 |
Over five years it is up 57.56% from 9,884 in 2014 (9.52% a year on average, compounded). Since 1995 it is up 273.45% from 4,170 in 1995 (5.64% a year on average, compounded). The World Bank has no value for 9 of the years in between; the chart leaves those gaps open rather than joining across them.
What the numbers say
In 2019, Indonesia's railways, goods transported (million ton-km) rose 3.2% on 2018 (from 15,091 to 15,573).
Across the 11 yearly changes before that (1996 to 2018), the average change was +8.1% and a typical year strayed about 8.8% from that (the standard deviation). This year's change was 0.6 standard deviations below that average, so it was an ordinary year: it sits within the range of normal year-to-year movement.
On record, the biggest yearly rise was 23.8% in 2008 and the biggest yearly fall was 2.8% in 2000. The numbers show how large and when, not why; for the cause, look at what happened in that country in those years.

What this measures
Goods transported by railway are the volume of goods transported by railway, measured in metric tons times kilometers traveled.
Limitations: Data for transport sectors are not always internationally comparable. Unlike for demographic statistics, national income accounts, and international trade data, the collection of infrastructure data has not been "internationalized." The data from UIC is based on voluntary reporting by railway companies, and can show drastic increases or decreases for some of the years due to lack of reporting by some of the companies in that country.
Regional and income-group figures are computed by the World Bank as a median.
