What the numbers say
In 2022, Canada's manufacturing, value added (current LCU) rose 10.5% on 2021 (from 241.64 billion to 267.07 billion).
Across the 24 yearly changes before that (1998 to 2021), the average change was +2.3% and a typical year strayed about 6.1% from that (the standard deviation). This year's change was 1.4 standard deviations above that average, so it was larger than a typical year, though not out of the range seen before.
On record, the biggest yearly rise was 17% in 2021 and the biggest yearly fall was 9.9% in 2009. The numbers show how large and when, not why; for the cause, look at what happened in that country in those years.
From 2013 to 2022 the straight-line trend is upward, about 6.65 billion a year. A straight line explains 75% of the movement over 10 observed years.

A straight-line projection, tested first
Extending that straight line gives about 264.02 billion for 2025. We show this only because the same method, fitted on earlier years, predicted 2020 to 2022 better than "no change" would have: its average miss was 16.83 billion, against 26.61 billion for assuming no change. Treat it as a continuation of the recent pattern, not a forecast of events: it cannot see a recession, a policy change or a revision to the data.

What this measures
Manufacturing includes industries classified in ISIC (Rev. 3) major division C and is defined as the physical or chemical transformation of materials or components into new products. Value added is the contribution to the economy by a producer or an industry or an institutional sector, which is estimated by the total value of output produced and deducting the total value of intermediate consumption of goods and services used to produce that output. This indicator is expressed in current prices, meaning no adjustment has been made to account for price changes over time. This series is expressed in local currency units.
