What the numbers say
In 2024, Bhutan's households and NPISHs final consumption expenditure (constant 2015 US$) fell 2.1% on 2023 (from US$1.28 billion to US$1.25 billion).
Across the 30 yearly changes before that (1994 to 2023), the average change was +7.2% and a typical year strayed about 17% from that (the standard deviation). This year's change was 0.5 standard deviations below that average, so it was an ordinary year: it sits within the range of normal year-to-year movement.
On record, the biggest yearly rise was 67.1% in 2007 and the biggest yearly fall was 33.2% in 2006. The numbers show how large and when, not why; for the cause, look at what happened in that country in those years.
From 2015 to 2024 the straight-line trend is upward, about US$19.85 million a year. A straight line explains 75% of the movement over 10 observed years.

What this measures
This field includes expenditure on goods and services by the Household and NPISH sector for the direct satisfaction of human needs or wants, whether individual or collective. This indicator is expressed in constant prices, meaning the series has been adjusted to account for price changes over time. The reference year for this adjustment is 2015. This indicator is expressed in United States dollars.
Limitations: Because policymakers have tended to focus on fostering the growth of output, and because data on production are easier to collect than data on spending, many countries generate their primary estimate of GDP using the production approach. Moreover, many countries do not estimate all the components of national expenditures but instead derive some of the main aggregates indirectly using GDP (based on the production approach) as the control total. Household final consumption expenditure is often estimated as a residual, by subtracting all other known expenditures from GDP. The resulting aggregate may incorporate fairly large discrepancies.
Regional and income-group figures are computed by the World Bank as a gap-filled total.
